Easy Rider.

by Max Brady

It’s been a while since we blogged anything, but we had a great excuse, we were busy organising Battle of the Bands for The Advertising Benevolent Society, (more on this soon, including video of the night). But we’re back with normal service.

We came across this spot from Ogilvy Cape Town. If you’ve ever ridden a motorbike, you’ll understand why we find it amusing. Though it is never a good idea to wear an open face helmet, (too many flies), the spot captures the reality of motorbiking perfectly. You need both hands, it’s more fun to go with a mate, even if that mate can’t go quite as fast as you, you can ‘hook’ up with other bikers, who may bike as a way of life, and may not necessarily welcome you into their breakfast club, (Laragh if you’re looking for a good breakfast place for bikers in Wicklow by the way), you can’t hear what the other person is saying, so you make up your own sign language, and don’t even get me started on what it’s like to ride pillion, with the fear of turning your head out into the wind too much, in case you break your damn neck….

Still though, great spot, and was probably great fun to make.

Talking Italian…

by Max Brady

I have long had a thing about Mr Clooney. George. You can keep all your toy boys, Mr Clooney is far more interesting. So, imagine how upsetting it is to find out that your friends from Italy, Milano, your very own Director, Dario Piana, has been working with said Mr Clooney over a period that has taken in 5 TV commercials. And then remember that your Director, didn’t invite you to tag along to the shoot in LA, where you could have met George. (So close, and yet so far…..)

Here is one of the spots, with Clooney, George to me, “Talking Italian”, (Bananarama for those readers too young to remember the 80′s).

Great Writing

by Max Brady

Sometimes it’s the writing that makes a great ad. Here’s a good example. (Great casting too!)

How we did it…

by Max Brady

Our Strongbow ‘Hero’ spot is up for a craft award in post production at the Sharks at Kinsale this weekend. To show how much work went into it, (directed epically by Des Mullan, and instructed efficiently by myself! ;-p), here is a little bit of show and tell that we did to show how the post was handled by Windmill Lane and Buf, Paris. Surprisingly, there were quite a few shots that didn’t need anything doing to them at all, and it’s only when you look back that you see just how much was already in camera. Not to take away from the post houses and the great job that they did in any way…….

More Hamsters

by Max Brady

I blogged these guys before, back sometime in 2010. Hamsters are entertaining, and rapping hamsters are especially entertaining. (Note how they nod their heads along in time!) Nice to see a campaign that is continuing on it’s theme. For Kia, and set in a post apocalyptic landscape, (poking a little fun at all the ‘gamers’ commercials out there, this is just different.

And if you don’t remember the first one, (actually, my favourite!. Here it is.)
