| Basil Schlegel started his film making career by directing documentaries and music videos after graduating from high school in Frankfurt.
By 1998, after graduating college, he helmed the launch for the Gugenheim Bilbao Museum in Spain and made commercial spots for the British Museum for Photography, Film, and Television in the UK, and Miller Beer in the US. Basil’s work as a visual storyteller paints the filmmaker as one in touch with the full spectrum of human emotion. He describes his ads as “mini-movies,” striving to work on the same scale and quality as contemporary features. Endorsing a proactive team effort approach that embraces “fun and humanity”: “I’m taking my work seriously, but I’m having a good time doing it.” Basil’s international spot work includes campaigns for advertisers such as VISA, Sony, Burger King, and PepsiCo. His awards and recognitions include The New York Festivals, El Gran Jurado Mexico, The Chinese Advertising Award, Promax & BDA, The London International Advertising Award, Epica, Creative Club of Austria, and The Art Directors Club. His latest campaign for Tourism Malaysia won him Silver for Best Director at the Kancil Awards Basil maintains a Los Angeles and a German base camp/residence but home is “Anywhere, really”. |
